St John Horslydown, Southwark
« on: Tuesday 10 October 17 10:26 BST (UK) »
I've tried finding these parish records on both ancestry and FindMyPast but as far as I can tell they either haven't been added yet or I'm simply looking in the wrong place.

If I am looking in the wrong place is it possible to send me the link so I can search them myself please....or, alternatively, if anyone has access to them would they mind looking for a baptism for

Mary Ann Lane
born 4 October 1871 at the Union workhouse, St John's, Southwark
Mother Hannah Lane
No father listed.

There are no existing records for the workhouse for this year but if the parish baptisms exist I might be able to find out a little more about her mother.

However, there is a possibility that the family were RC in which case she won't be in the parish register

Thanks in advance

The records are on Ancestry. If you’re wanting to Browse (rather than Search), go to the collection
London, England, Church of England Births and Baptisms, 1813-1916.

Using the panel on the right, headed Browse this Collection, take this path ...
Borough: Southwark
Parish: St John, Horselydown
Year: 1848 - 1896

If you also want to try St Olave ...
Borough: Southwark
Parish: St Olave, Bermondsey
Year: 1813 - 1884

Thanks Bookbox  ;D

Have followed the link and managed to find all the records - plus lots of other too which are almost certainly going to be relevant for other family ancestors in my tree.

I had a very cursory look at the St John Horslydown and St Olave Bermondsey registers for October 1871 to the end of 1872 and couldn't find Mary Ann. However, it does require considerable time to browse on screen. I look forward to keep searching.

A very valuable resource and great to be able to look in my own time. Mary Ann certainly hasn't come on the "search" facility but then some of the handwriting would be very easy to mis-transcribe and browsing the originals is a bit more rewarding - or will be if I find her :D
