Do you have any dates?
Approx dates of birth,

hi jinks..  the only date i have is of percy. his death was 1917 and he was 21 when he died, my mum also mentioned a shop a corn merchants or a seed shop that thomas owned in leigh on sea.they still lived in leigh around 1935 as my mum was sent to live with them that is all i know. i have tried different spellings of their names, also checked buisiness directories, could it be they were missed in the census? or maybe i am doing it wrong i'd really appreciate any help thank you

Hi Kari

welcome to rootschat.

Have you looked on www.GenesReunited.co.uk ?

you can do a person search - loads of Allens !

There are also message boards so you can see if anyone else is researching in the same area.

It's free to register and build your tree online - but if you want to contact another person on the site you have to pay a small subscription (about £10 a year I think) - or hope that they see your names and want to contact you!

All I can say is I will be renewing my subscription when it comes up - definitely worth the money!  I have found loads of cousins of one sort or another on here.

If you want me to contact anyone on this site on your behalf let me know.

This seems to be the most likely match for Thomas in

1891 Census:

RG12/1065
Folio 151 p. 52
Hornsey, Middlesex

17 Warwick Road

Thomas Allen, head, 48, Bricklayer, b. Hoxton
Sarah, wife, 48, b. Brentford
Sara, dau, single, 24, Dressmaker, b. London
Walter, son, single, 23, Compositor, b. London
Thomas, son, single, 21, Gun Maker, b. Bethnal Green

Tanja  :)

I'll let you check them out in 1881 by yourself at www.familysearch.org or www.ancestry.co.uk

Me again  ;)

Have found the birth references of Norman and Douglas:

Births June quarter 1900
Registration District Edmonton
Volume 3a p. 362

(Both children on the same page)

and this should be Percy's:
Births June quarter 1896
Edmonton
Volume 3a page 299

If you order a birth certificate for one of them, it will tell you their mother's maiden name.

Sorry, should have mentioned where I found the info:

Which is not complete, but very useful.
