Help with Backhouse family, Whitby
« on: Wednesday 22 November 17 04:29 GMT (UK) »
Researching the ‘Backhouse’ family from Whitby. John was born circa 1824 and was a stonemason. He is recorded living in Whitby with his wife ‘Susan’ and children Ann, John, Jane and Ellen who I believe was christened Eleanor and was known in later life as ‘Nell Baccus’ On christening records Susan is shown as ‘Susanna’ yet I can’t find a marriage. John died at 49yrs and Susan went off the rails and became a troublesome drunk featuring in the local gazette. Would like to fill in a few blanks in this family and identify Susan/Susannah if possible and any other information from you helpful people.

Many thanks.

John
