Johns - Forest of Dean
« on: Saturday 16 December 17 20:08 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

Does anyone have any information on Eliza Johns married to William Johns (King of the gipsies FoD).

I am struggling to find a maiden name.

Several census's show they were camped with Fletchers but the children married hodkins/hoskins, butlers and smiths.

Eliza was born around 1855 died 1929. According to the various newspaper articles that reported on her funeral her sister sarah hoskins attended.

Census results say place of birth brambles / bramber ?worcestershire or ledbury Herefordshire.

Any help would be great ?

Welcome to Rootschat.

Have you got the names of any of the children and have you found their birth registration on the GRO site as that would give you Eliza's maiden name?

The GRO Index Search has had Mother's Maiden Name showing for just over a year :D

This will be shown for almost all births between 1837 and 1916.

Trying to have a look now, not having much luck at the moment. I never found birth certificates. Just baptism records. Assumed this was because they were travellers

Oh dear - they were in Monmouth on 1901, so this could be the youngest child's birth, but it isn't a lot of help as it gives his mother's maiden name as Johns!
