SEDCOLE + BROWN + BUNTING :Obviously it seemed there might be a connection between Catherine (nee SEDCOLE) BROWN (Eliza BUNTING's mother) and the "J. SEDCOLE" who had sponsored the BROWN family's journery to NZ.
As it transpired, "J. SEDCOLE" was
Captain John SEDCOLE a mariner, who appears to have arrived in NZ (more specifically at Wellington), sometime around 1853; a brother to Eliza's mother, Catherine.
In 1857 John SEDCOLE married Elizabeth Ann NASH at St. Peters Church, Wellington.
Children of the couple were >
SEDCOLE1858 - no given name
1859 - Clara Ann
1861 - Elizabeth
1863 - James Charles
1865 - Susannah *
1867 - Margaret West
1870 - Matthew Montgomery
[* It seems most likely than not, that this Susannah SEDCOLE b. 1865, was the mother of
Eveline Ivy born 1883. So Susannah SEDCOLE was the niece of Catherine BROWN (Eliza Emma's mother) ... and also the cousin of Eliza Emma. ]
A further note: Captain John SEDCOLE died at his Wellington home on 18 November
1871.
