1856 Dorking marriage look up request

James William Gower married Marianne Taylor in Q2 1856 in Dorking, Surrey, England. Vol 2A P157 Line 5.

You are asking on various boards for several lookups of marriage registrations.

Civil registrations can’t be looked up - the index details are there to enable you to order the certificate.

Where the marriage has taken place in a church and the records for that church are online, then people can help by pointing you to the relevant parish register. But this doesn’t apply to (a) marriages which didn’t take place in a church, or (b) the majority of church marriages where the relevant register has not been digitised. (London and Liverpool are examples of places where there is now good online coverage).

Otherwise - if you want an offline lookup - you need to know that it’s a church marriage not a register office one, and be able to identify the parish (of which there will be many in any given registration district).

Marriage Locator is helpful for this.  Unfortunately it does not return a parish for the registration details you have given, so it may be have been a register office or nonconformist marriage.

His oldest children have mother’s maiden name Ashby. (Thomas 1847 to Jane 1855).
