*SOLVED* Ancestry Tree mix up, Sister is mother

On Ancestry how does one make a sister a mother to her brother and thus moving all the other relatives up one generation IE: who I thought were the parents become the grandparents etc
Any ideas ?

I can't help you with your ancestry aspect, but it's nice to know that that sort of thing happens to other people. In his late 50s my father found this had happened to him. Sadly I was out of touch with him and never saw him again, and only found this out through my own research.

Years on I still find it hard to think of my auntie as actually being my granny.

Go to the Profile of the child concerned.
Then, click on "Edit" (Top Right), and then "Edit Relationships".

From there you will be able to add alternate parents, and delete existing parents.

If I delete existing parents I will loose them all together from the tree though will I not ?
Just want to move everyone up one line if that is possible without having to re-enter all the individual person details again

On the edit profile when you click remove parent it will only remove that person as the parent of the profile person nobody else

I am assuming you are using FTM.
With the BROTHER selected in the tree.
Instead of 'Edit' go to 'Person' (in same row) then select 'Attach/Detach Person' then 'Detach Selected Person' then select the Father and Mother you wish to disassociate and click 'OK' then go back to 'Person', 'Attach Mother' you will be given a list of people in your tree, select the appropriate person and click 'Attach' then 'OK'. et voila the change should be accomplished. No one will be deleted. I am assuming the father is unknown, if he is known one can add him in the normal way if he is new to your tree or use the attach method if he is already in your tree.
I can't check the procedure on Ancestry on-line as I don't currently have a tree on-line.

Why are you looking for the brother's name?
Search for the child first.
Then go into profile.
Then Edit Relationships (for the child)

Then add an Alternate Mother's name.
Then remove the previous mother's name.

You are editing Relationships, NOT editing the Tree
