Help on the Hammond family
« on: Friday 30 July 04 14:47 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone, I need help to sort out my great grandmothers family. She was born in 1870 in Harston Cambridge, I  have  a 1871 census which shows her on it her parents names are George Worland 29 and Hannah 28, with Ann Rebecca 7, and George worland jnr 6???
On the 1881 census her parents  names are George and Amrah, both aged 41, No George but he died aged 11 and no ann, but Emily 9 and Edwin 6, hope you are still with me, on the 1891 census George is 52 and Hannah 51, no Laura but Edwin and Emily with new sister Ada,are on it, I know Laura had a sister Ada.
the question is her parents ages differ on the 1871 census by 2-3 years compaired to the other ones and also the name change of her mother on the 81 census, does anyone think they are the same family as this is driving me crazy. I will only be online for a while now as I live in Australia and its getting late at night but if anyone can help me I will check my emails tomorrow.

Hi Chrissiepoos,
This definately sound like the same family to me Don't worry about age differences as sometimes the person filling out the form didn't know exact ages, and other times the enumerator couldn't read the hand writing on the form. That's probably what happened with Hannah's name-The enumerator couldn't read it so he just wrote what he thought it said.
When reading census pages you have to allow for human error ;D
