Can you add some details of what country, and the relevant dates to make it easier for someone to help you?

Welcome to rootschat, Barker7573.
By 'Old Mitcham' do you mean this area?
https://photoarchive.merton.gov.uk/collections/buildings/35359-old-mitcham
By 'Gypsy Mitcham' do you mean anyone with the surnames 'smiths, Ridley, Chapman's, barker' who lived in Mitcham from 1930 to 1990?
Google search gives e.g.
https://photoarchive.merton.gov.uk/collections/open-spaces/33166-gypsy-families-pictured-on-mitcham-common
and this post on Ancestry from 2006 onwards which might be of use if you have access:
https://www.ancestry.co.uk/boards/thread.aspx?mv=flat&m=39234&p=surnames.smith
More information and discusssions from google searches.
