Hall/Graham Carlisle Archive
« on: Tuesday 13 February 18 19:34 GMT (UK) »
Is there SKS going to Carlisle Archive who would look up Bishops' Transcripts for me for the following:

Marriage
8 December 1827
John Sidney Hall to Isabella Graham
Carlisle

This would be St Mary DRC/6/29 or St Cuthbert DRC/6/28

I am hoping there may be a little more than the bare facts I have above.

Many thanks

there is an online tree which gives place of marriage as St Mary carlisle

if that helps

Thank you yes, it pinpoints the church without having to look any further.

This is research which has been on the back burner since 2007.  Carlisle Archive can offer me a digitised copy of the marriage certificate for £11.62 (R200) (expensive for us here in S.A.) but I doubt an 1827 marriage certificate would tell me more than I already know - bride, groom and date.  I was hoping the parish clerk's submissions the the Bishops' transcripts may have more information.

Many thanks

An*****y

Bishops transcripts and copy of the marriage register should also show witnesses -who may/may not be relatives

Here is the text of entry no 192 for St Mary's, Carlisle which at that time was in Carlisle Cathedral nave.

John Sidney Hall of this parish and Isabella Graham of this parish were married in this church by Banns with consent of [blank] this eighth day of December in the year One Thousand Eight Hundred and Twenty Seven by me, William Rees.
This marriage was solemnised between us: John Sidney Hall, Isabella Graham.
In the presence of Edward Storrow, Wm Howe.

The BT is an exact copy of this, even written out on the same type of standardised form.

If you PM me with your email address, I can send you a scan of the photocopy.--Clearly
