I'm trying to get more details on a Stephen Vowless who was wounded 1916. I have some details already from Army Casualty Lists.

John B

Hi John

The WW1 Army Casualty List has an S. VOWLESS  (3rd Rifle Brigade - Casualty List number 418/30 - date:  30/9/16) whose Reg. number is given as  25/834 :

On the WW1 Nominal Roll however, this Reg. number (25/834) is allocated to a Sydney VOWLESS, - occupation: Seaman, whose next-of-kin is his father, Grove VOWLESS, Stationmaster, PakiPaki, Hastings.    ???

VOWLESS - Sydney [a.k.a. VOWLESS, Sydney Gordon ]

Thanks Alan,

Two Vowless brothers settled in NZ. Grove Vowless 1827-1876 in Waikato and Stephen Vowless 1833-1903 in Wellington. I have lots of detail on both branches of the family and happy to help any who are interested.

Your Reuben and the Sydney/Sidney Gordon found by Lu are both from the Waikato branch.

My mother and main interest is in the Wellington clan.

Hello Lu,

Many Thanks for that extra information - although it blows away my theory and means we have to start from scratch again searching for Uncle Robert and Steve! Must be a different surname altogether.

These two photos were found in an old family album which used to belong to my 2nd cousin 1 x removed Nellie Constance McCallum (nee Willcox) 1906-1947.

Hi John

Can you tell us please, who is your ancestor-in-common with Nellie ?
