Electoral roll 1918 Ethel Main
« on: Sunday 25 February 18 16:40 GMT (UK) »
Where would I be able to access the electoral roll for 1918 for Thetford? I'm looking for my grandmother Ethel Main, or my grandfather Thomas Ford. I'm hoping either of them would be in that area. Any help much appreciated.

Norfolk Record Office http://www.archives.norfolk.gov.uk/view/NCC152031

Until 1918, the right to vote was closely linked to property ownership.

Leicestershire:Chamberlain, Dakin, Wilkinson, Moss, Cook, Welland, Dobson, Roper,Palfreman, Squires, Hames, Goddard, Topliss, Twells,Bacon.

Electoral registers were not normally produced during war time.

The only Ethel I can see in Norfolk is
Dec 1894 Thetford
Main, Ethel Alice

Baptized at West Tofts, 11 November 1894

If this is your grandmother then really you are unlikely to find her on an electoral register until about 1924/5, when she reached 30.
Don't see a marriage to Thomas Ford!

There isn't a marriage! It's where they met, and around that time. Thanks anyway

That's her though. I thought she may have been a VAD. He was in a hospital from 1917 but don't know where. She was working and born in that area. I know Lynford Hall was used as a hospital during WW1.
