Birth, marriage and death data from 1837 onwards. 1861 and 1891 censuses. Claims to have the most comprehensive collection of British military records online.

I think that article is rather out of date therefore not of much use or interest to anyone on rootschat. "1837 online" morphed into Find My Past many moons ago. And there have been additions of the 1901 and 1911 censuses since then.

Added: "2006" is written in the link. Does that mean the article is 12 years old? 

Added: Good question Ray. I assumed it had been posted as it contained useful information but perhaps the OP posted it for some other reason .....

According to the link this article appeared in The Guardian 8 July 2006 so will have to wait for poster to say why they posted this.

Whilst the link you posted contained information that was 'current' in 2006, since then...

"the UK's leading genealogy magazine, Your Family Tree." has ceased publication. Other magazines are still available.

"you can order online at gro.gov.uk at a cost of £7 or £23 for a priority service. Expect to wait around two weeks if you use the £7 service." now costs £9.25 and £23.40 and there is a service level agreement for the £9.25 service of despatch around 5 working days plus 2nd class delivery

"If you can't go online, indexes to the certificates are held by the Family Records Centre for England & Wales," was closed in 2008

"The government's familyrecords.gov.uk site has a useful guide to software titles." doesn't exist anymore

1837online was started by the company now better known as FindMyPast https://www.findmypast.co.uk/content/company-history

familyrelatives.org doesn't exist anymore
