As does his entry in the register of Soldiers' Effects - 9 September 1917 in No 6 Casualty Clearing Station (which at the time was in Bruay France).

I am Zoe Northeast, granddaughter of Maximilian Double.
It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.
With deep sadness,

Sorry, yes I've got that...my mistake. I have a copy of the soldiers effects but have been unable to locate service records in the British Army WW Service records

Are you aware that around 75% of WW1 service records were destroyed in the bombing in WW2? His records could be among those that were lost.

You are probably aware of the type of company he was serving in at the time, info about them here:
http://www.longlongtrail.co.uk/army/regiments-and-corps/the-corps-of-royal-engineers-in-the-first-world-war/the-special-companies-of-the-royal-engineers-poison-gas/
Their war diary is at the National Archives:

He had been awarded the Military Medal.
