Should just point out firstly, that in the subject heading to this thread, you have written >
"Me Breton" family ... rather than
Le Breton (or
le Breton). You may want to correct that.

A
Francis le BRETON, ex Jersey, accompanied by his
wife Mary and six children, arrived in the Province of Canterbury,
in 1864.The passenger list for the "Ivanhoe" on which they arrived, shows his occupation at that time as "farm labourer" ... but it's probable he became a farm worker only for the purpose of complying with the conditions of being granted a subsidised passage for his family under an immigration scheme of that time.
Francis appears on early NZ electoral rolls for Canterbury as a freeholder (owning land) in the 1870's, although his occupation is not stated.
But by 1880-81 he is listed as a tailor.Is this the person you are looking for ? ~ Lu
