Police Force, H M Dockyard, Malta
« on: Saturday 31 March 18 20:39 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know how I can find records of British subjects married and born in Malta.  I am trying to find the marriage of Elizabeth Stephens (Widow, nee Daw) who married Richard Werring (Superintendent of Police, HM Dockyard Malta) sometime around 1860's.

I have found the exact date on the Malta Family History website, under British Residents 1800-1900.

Again the spelling is WEARING. Richard was also a widower, he was from Stoke Climsland, Cornwall. The marriage was on the 17 December 1862.

Many thanks for your help.  I have checked out the Malta Family History Web site.  Do you know how I can find out where in Malta they were married, how long they lived in Malta and date and names of any children born to them whilst there?

I can't help with the place of marriage, or how long they were in Malta. However, the1881 census has Richard and Elizabeth back in Cornwall with a son Alfred born in Malta c1873.

There is also with them a19 year old daughter Alice born Cornwall. I cannot see who's daughter she is, I cannot find a birth registration under WERRING/WEARING or STEPHENSON.

Thank you.  The spelling varies - Waring, Werring, Wearing and Werrin.
