James Halliday Grinyer, North Tidworth
« on: Tuesday 03 April 18 11:34 BST (UK) »
Hello,
I've found that James Halliday Grinyer was buried on 2 May 1953 in Holy Trinity Churchyard, North Tidworth, from the Wiltshire memorial Inscription Index 46371. However, I don't know whether this is simply referring to an entry in the burial register or an existing headstone. Should there be a headstone, and anyone reading this would be able to put me in touch with someone local who would be able to take a photograph, I would be very grateful (as I don't live in the UK). I realise that this request is rather demanding, but thank you for reading it anyway.

If it appeared on the Memorial Inscription Index there should be a gravestone

ADDED It looks as though Jane Grinyer is also mentioned on the same MI

Hi,

As a thought you could try this site, which I have had some succes in finding my ancestors headstones. Not everyone would have one so you might be unlucky. Worth a try.

As they are mentioned on the MI indexes I see no reason why they don't exist unless recently removed.  There is another Grinyer headstone also showing on the MI index for Tidworth

Thank you for your replies,
I discovered last night that Hampshire genealogical society have a cd with - among others -  Tidworth MI's. Of course, it's the usual thing - I have only one set of ancestors in that area. That's one of the many disadvantages of living outside of the UK - no local library facilities. But it's great to have forums like this, so thanks to all.
