Help with latin date please
« on: Thursday 26 April 18 11:44 BST (UK) »
Can anyone work out the day of the month this marriage took place please?

I know it's march 1583 but different sites have interpreted the day differently  :-\

thanks in advance
Jenny

3rd day of March? Not sure on the other word.
I am Australian, from all the lands I come (my ancestors, at least!)

Pine/Pyne, Dowdeswell, Kempster, Sando/Sandoe/Sandow, Nancarrow, Hounslow, Youatt, Richardson, Jarmyn, Oxlade, Coad, Kelsey, Crampton, Lindner, Pittaway, and too many others to name.
Devon, Dorset, Gloucs, Cornwall, Warwickshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire, Wilts, Germany, Sweden, and of course London, to name a few.

Thank you... that does match up with one of the transcripts. As you can guess my latin is next to zilch!  :-X
Thanks again

...Coniuncti tertio die Martij on Shrovetwesdaye...

The third day of March (as has been said), which was Shrove Tuesday.

Coniuncti = united or married

Well done, Horsleydown86. I couldn't make out Shrove Tuesday.
My Latin is a bit rusty, but if I couldn't read that image, I'm sure I would have been haunted by the ghost of my Latin teacher, lol.
