Wm John Shaw's family background was apparently in County Down. I'd like to know more, if anyone can help?

What do you know already, it looks like his wife was Martha and they lived in Rose Cottage in Limerick, do you know her maiden name? Have you got their marriage? What was his father's name? How do you know he came from Co.Down?

Shaw & Sons operated out of Mulgrave Street. It was founded in 1831 by William John Shaw, whose family originated in Co. Down. In 1892 Shaw’s factory was using electric lights, lifts, a mini-railway and even telephonic communications, the Shaws factory was well ahead of it’s time. It is now owned by the Kerry Group.

Look for his Death Cert, see how old he was then you have a Birth Year to work from
From there you can start looking for Marriage starting from when he was e.g 20 y.o

Thanks for the information, though I already know about his business life. I am interested in his genealogical background, which according to another website, was in County Down. His wife, Martha's maiden surname, I'm fairly sure, was Duffield.
