Hi, i’m helping an American friend with his research in Wales and wondering if anyone visiting the Caernarfon archives could look for 2 burials at Beddgelert for me please.
We have the family on the 1841 census and believe they emigrated around late 1845/46.
In 1841 they were at Bryn Mwdwl, Beddgelert (HO107, piece 1391, folio 18, page 5). Registration district Festiniog, sub district Tremadoc.
Hugh Evans, aged 40 (1801), miner (copper ore).
Jane Evans, aged 35 (1806) and children:
Elizabeth 12 (1829)
Anne 10 (1831)
Griffith 8 (1833)
David 6 (1835)
Henry 4 (1837)
Mary 2 (1839)
All born in county.
We have found baptisms.... Elizabeth and Anne at the parish church in Beddgelert, Griffith and David at the Calvinistic Methodist church at Rhyd Ddu, Beddgelert, but nothing so far for Henry and Mary.
From the records in America it appeared that wife Jane and daughter Anne didn’t travel, so we are assuming they died between 1841 and 1845/6.
We have just received a possible death certificate (superintendent’s district Festiniog, registrar’s district Tremadoc) for Anne Evans, died 1 July 1844, at Drwsycoed, parish of Beddgelert, aged 13, of consumption, daughter of Hugh Evans. Informant Griffith Evans, present at the death, of Drws y Coed. Looks promising, but a different house, and if her brother Griffith, he would only have been 12. Not found any other Evans families at Beddgelert with father Hugh and daughter Anne though.
No obvious death for Jane, though a couple a few years of age out.
So, if anyone is going to the archives and could look for both burials, that would be a great help.
