IoW Families GOLDSMITH / HAYDEN - Why did they end up in Russia?
« on: Saturday 09 June 18 09:15 BST (UK) »
Looking for any information on - (See ?)
Emily Lucretia HAYDEN - my 2nd great-aunt
b. 17 MAY 1838 St Helens, Hampshire, England
d. 27 NOV 1916 Odessa, Ukraine
m. 28 JUN 1862 Odessa, Ukraine
John Edward GOLDSMITH
b. 1837? Portsea, Hampshire, England
d. 31 AUG 1904 Odessa, Ukraine

I would love to know why they were there and what happened to them and their family?

Strangely - Two of Emily's sisters also died in Odessa
Both seem to be unmarried - very strange - any ideas?

Matilda Mary HAYDEN
b. 03 FEB 1845 St Helens, Hampshire, England
d. 26 JAN 1869 Odessa, Ukraine

Laura Margaret HAYDEN
b. 02 JAN 1847 Isle of Wight, St Helens
d. 15 JAN 1871 Odessa, Ukraine
I am researching the family named Molyneux (or possibly Molineux, Molineaux and Molyneaux (or with 2'LL's or without the 'X')), of South East Lancashire (Wigan, Pemberton and Ormskirk area), England.

Also researching; Fairhurst, Lancaster (Lancaster-Fairhurst), Griffith and Hayden (Haydon)

The birth records of the children indicate that John Edward Goldsmith was a ships broker, so he presumably based himself in Odessa in pursuit of that profession. There is an entry in the Probate Calendar for him :

John Edward Goldsmith of 3 Rue Nadejdenskia , Odessa , Russia died 31 August 1904 at Bolchoi Fontan , Odessa . Administration with will ( limited ) to Thomas Frederick Dickinson , solicitor the attorney of Emily Lucretia Goldsmith widow. Effects £6103 6s 5d.

This is great thanks. Any idea what happened to their children if they had any?

John Edward Goldsmith born 1870 probably married Edith Blanch Rongier ( needs confirmation )

Edith  Vadejda Goldsmith , dau of the above couple, born 24 Jun 1896 Russia

Edith Blanche Rongier married John Edward  Goldsmith 8 Jan 1895 Newcastle upon Tyne
( Groom's father John Edward Goldsmith , bride's father Chares ( Charles ? ) Rongier.
GRO index has bride as Rougier , not Rongier , J-M 1895 Newcastle upon Tyne 10b 76.
