In 1911 John gives his Place of Birth as St Mary's, Leicester, and in 1901 his YoB is c1867, so working on a wider date range for his birth turned up a militia attestation form for a John Jones born St Mary's, Leicester - attested 18 Apr 1885 age given as 19 years & 6 months.
His address was Foundry Inn, Belgrave Road, St Margaret (Leicester) Occupation: Labourer. No family details are given, but he didn't appear for annual training after 1885 (1886 is marked 'Absent' and nothing thereafter).
The nearest I can find is a family in Halford Square, St Margaret in 1871:
Ann Jones Widow 46
Hannah Daur 23
Sarah 18
Richard 15
Margaret 11
John 7
In 1861 Ann is 38 and with a husband named Richard Jones, 38 Cordwainer born Ashby De La Zouch. I couldn't find a suitable death for Richard - probably because he pops up in Tamworth, Staffordshire in 1871 with a wife named Adelaine & her son William Deakin aged 10. As well as a Bootmaker, Richard is now the Local Methodist Preacher.
If this is the correct John Jones - and it's a big if - then this is his birth registration:
