Which bridgegroom Henry Cox is son of George Cox? 1866 or 1867?
« on: Saturday 04 August 18 11:07 BST (UK) »
Henry (Frederick) Cox, son of George Cox, machine lace maker, born 1845, New Lenton, either married Emma Hartley at St John the Baptist, Beeston, on 11 March 1866 or Eliza Pratt at All Saints Nottingham on 15 August 1867, but without images, I can't see which of the two Henrys is the correct one, ie with the father called George, a lace maker. His mother was Priscilla, whioch would be a real clincher if she just happened to be a witness.....
All public Family Trees in Ancestry (pinch of salt!) have Eliza, but those I think are the relevant censuses seem to show that mb Henry married Emma. Could anyone with access to images of the PRs please look them both up for me? Transcriptions of the complete entry, or images, would be most gratefully received by Jacqueline

Which wife does he have in 1871 - Emma or Eliza?

You can check the birth of any children which will give mothers maiden name.

I understand it's preferable to see the marriage but you could still do the above.

What an idiot I am! GRO new indexes, of course; I'll check now, "i" dotting and "t" crossing. I'm sure, however, that the one in the censuses is Emma. I'm just a bit concerned that the man believed in the family in the USA c1910 to live in Colorado USA, and to be father of 3 daughters, is the same as the census Henry married to Emma, with 3 sons! Hence the need to see the fathers of the two bridegrooms - and witnesses would help, too.
The need for certainty is for a dna Cox project.

For info the 1871 with

Henry 25
Emma 22
Frederick 4

seems to be this birth

Frederick Cox Sep 1866 Basford MMN Hartley

but that doesn't really prove anything as you already know Emma was Hartley  :-\

Henry and Emma appear to be still together in 1901.
