"just posted for info really I found a death for a Robert a mariner but the father was wrong"

I meant Robert Lloyd on that one.

I was curious about your post saying Robert died in Las Palmos in 1902

Hi,

There is an entry in the England and Wales Civil Divorce Records 1858-1916, with the husbands petition (Squire Thornton Stratford Lecky) for divorce against Mary Lecky and co-respondent
Thomas Armstrong Slack on the basis of Adultery.

Petition filed 26 June 1874; Decree Nisi 26 May 1875; Final Decree 14 December 1875. More details show the children's dates of birth - Charles Beresford Lecky born 14 Sept 1863; Arthur Goulstone Lecky born 28 July 1865, died 11 Sept 1870.

Adultery said to have taken place whilst the husband was at sea between Nov 1872 to Nov 1873 and also between Nov 1873 and March 1874.

Hi,

I am unsure whether this is the right Mary Lecky but a death in Liverpool age 50 in 1882 - Mar Qtr Reference Vol 8b Page 117.

The son Charles Beresford Lecky is in a Naval College in Devon in the 1881 census.

Well I go to the foot of my stairs! A divorce which I felt was so unlikely and presumed that Mary nee Lloyd had died. Hence why Squire married again. No intetest in Slack and his marriage to an Elizabeth as it is not relevant.

Fascinating, well found and thankyou.

Yes of course no interest but,and perhaps why should it be, the divorce is not mentioned in the biographies.
I mentioned Mr S because I thought we might find Mary with him and son Charles but he was with his wife and family.

So it was a married man that she was ....  with, whilst poor old Squire was at sea charting the Oceans. Do you know what occupation Slack had? I really am fascinated with all this however, considering that it all started with a little girl falling off the cliff at Lulworth Cove. WhichBiography are you referring to by the way.
