Marriage notice
« on: Saturday 25 August 18 02:39 BST (UK) »
Can anyone decipher what this notice says please? It's from Falkirk, Stirlingshire, Scotland in 1713. There are a couple of words that have me baffled. 3rd line and 5th line in particular. Many thanks.

Some I am unsure of, but a try:

George Shaw son to Ale?
Shaw in Drum-ugle-  &
Janet Gibb daughter to Tho (or 'the'?)
dewig--- James Gibb in R---y
gave up (their?) names to be
proclaimed

I think the word starting with D in the second line is a place name (further research or local knowledge required to work out what it is).
I can't immediately make sense of the word which may start with a D at the start of line 4.
Unsure what George's father's name is but my initial guess is Alex.
Don't know where James Gibb is from except that it appears to start with R.

I'm sure you will get more expert opinions.

PS. Welcome to rootschat.  :)

Thanks. There is a Redding near Falkirk so got that. It's the two you can't get that have me stumped. The 4th line first word looks like do?ig? James Gibbs of Redding, so a name or a title?

Thanks that's one word now solved. The two place names would be great.

There is a Reddoch, so that just leaves the first place name to decipher. Lots of place names starting with Drum in Stirlingshire.
