Elizabeth Parry
« on: Tuesday 11 September 18 19:59 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I'm not sure if I'm in the right place with my question so please let me know.

I'm researching my paternal grandmother's line who came from Gloucester.  She was Mary Eleanor Wheeler born Aug 1901 in Monmouthshire. He mother was Elizabeth Sarah Parry born 1875 in Gloucester and her father was George Francis Wheeler born 1875 in Newham, Gloucester. I've just ordered Elizabeth Sarah's birth record as I don't know who her parents were but during my research I cam across something very interesting. George Francis Wheeler was the son of John Wheeler born 1849 in Wiltshire and his mother was Mary Ann Simmonds born about 1849 in Woolaston Gloucester.
Mary ann's mother was Eliza Simmonds and the father on her marriage record was Isaac Watkins. I think I found a record that says Eliz's mother was Elizabeth Parry born 1789 in Gloucester and I'm wondering if she was related to my great grandmother Elizabeth Sarah Parry or is it just a coincidence ?

That whole line is very odd because I think Isaac Watkins may have marry Elizabeth Parry and then her daughter !!

Could someone help please as my head is spinning with its all.

Thanks

If Mary Ann Simmonds was illegitimate then she may have named a grandfather on her marriage.

That was my initial thought, but to find out more it needs some careful research. My head was also spinning after reading it, so would need to work through it step by step, confirming each step from as many angles as possible, to work out who is who and what happened.

People tended to choose names for their childen from a very limited range, so there are likely to be numerous people with the same names in the same area, so I wouldnt immediately leap to any conclusion that two ladies with the same name are the same person.

Thanks so much. I don't think Elizabeth Parry  and Elizabeth Sarah Parry are the same personas they were born at different times. I was wondering if there was a family link but as you say, names are very common and there are probably lots of Parrys in that area.

1911 on FamilySearch shows Mary's birth as Whitland, Carmarthenshire and it was registered at Narberth, so correct for Whitland. Certainly not Monmouthshire.
