Moneymore
« on: Tuesday 25 September 18 14:18 BST (UK) »
Some guidance needed please, if somebody was living in Moneymore in 1858 should I be looking under County Londonderry, Magherafelt, or possibly county Armagh, or does it depend on their religion. Any help would be appreciated.

Regards Daisy

Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

Daisy, The Topographical Index that I have shows 2 Moneymores - one in County Londonderry between Magherafelt and Cookstown and another in County Down in Donaghmore (Ward) in the old Newry and Mourne District Counncil area and Registrar's District.  No mention of County Armagh!  Brown1777

Thanks for that, I have grave details that state this person was born  Magherafelt, and I think I have now traced the family back to living in Moneymore in 1858, as it would be parish records I wasn't sure where they might have been documented, not one hundred percent sure of their religion, which makes it a bit of a needle in a haystack.

Moneymore will come under Magherafelt for civil registration

Although - I would also look under the neighbouring district of Cookstown, Co Tyrone given the proximity
McClean, Kelly, Murray, Higgins, McAnulty (McNulty, Conalty, Kinolty), Morgan, Rafferty, McPolin (All Co Down, Ireland) Bowman, Hooper(Yorkshire)

By 'parish records' do you mean church records? The Church of Ireland and Catholic churches use a parish system but other denominations don't.

The town of Moneymore falls within 2 civil parishes- Artrea and Desertlyn- according to Sean Ruad site.
However, here it's listed under Artrea-

With another Moneymore listed under Maghera Parish-
