James Veitch was born in 1893 at Lamesley, County Durham. He was the son of Scottish parents - Alexander Veitch and Margaret Pearson.
He was living with a paternal uncle in Edinburgh at the outbreak of WW1 and joined the Royal Scots (Lothian Regiment) Service Number 20026.
He was killed in action on 1st August 1916 and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France. His body was never found.
