Hi Everyone
I am tracing my mothers line directly back on the female side and have hit a brick wall with Susannah. The line goes:
Brenda Mary Thompson 1923-2011
Louisa Beavans Bertram 1894-1987
Sarah Jane Settrey 1870-1936
Margaret Ann Robinson 1846-1910
Mary Jane Stoddart 1818-?
Harriet Cole 1792-?
Mary Longstaff 1752-?
Susannah Stephenson 1713-1790
From Margaret Ann back to Susannah they all lived in Monkwearthmouth Co. Durham, UK. Susannah married William Longstaff (his 2nd wife) and died 1790 in Monkwearmouth. Susannah's place of birth is unknown.

25 Sep 1740 William Longstaff (fitter, age 33, of Monkwearmouth) obtained a licence to marry Susanna Stephenson (age 27, of Monkwearmouth), directed to Monkwearmouth or Bishopwearmouth
Surety: Robert Lawrance, mariner, of Bishopwearmouth
[Note: married 28 Oct at Monkwearmouth.]
I have been able to locate Susannah's father who is George Stephenson:
Will
George STEPHENSON, rope-maker, of Monkwearmouth Shore in the county of Durham [Monkwearmouth, County Durham]
Date of probate: 24 March 1750
will, 8 August 1747 (DPR/I/1/1749/S18/1-2)
In 1749 he left his daughter Susanna, wife of William Longstaff, £100.
William & Susannah had children:
George 1741
William 1744
Thomas 1746
Susannah 1748
Mary 1752
The naming line they seem to be following is 1st son after mothers father, 2nd son after fathers father (Williams dad was William), 1st daughter presumably after mothers mother and 2nd daughter after fathers mother (Williams mum was Mary).
I have been unable to find a marriage for Susannah's father George nor any details of his wife. From the naming George's wife may be also Susannah but I am not sure.
George's parents may be Edward Stephenson & Mary Stephenson.
Any guidance will be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Chris
