Thomas & Martha Wright - Great Ayton c. 1760s onwards

Hi all,

I have got Thomas Wright listed as my 5xGt Grandfather.  I believe him to have been married to a Martha, who is listed on the 1841 census as being 85 (1756) or thereabouts.

The following children were baptised in Great Ayton:

John Wright 1784
Mary Wright 1786
William Wright 1789
Robert Wright 1792
George Wright 1796

I descend from William Wright's line, so have a lot on him. I've also got a jumbled up mess with George Wright.  Other than that, I'm at a bit of a loss.

Any help and information on any of the above would be gratefully received!

Think this could possibly be Thomas and Martha's marriage in Stokesley which is three miles from Gt Ayton

Thomas WRIGHT of the parish married Martha SIMPSON after Banns on 24 March 1778

Hi
Possible burial At Great Ayton
Thomas Wright born 1757 buried 5 June 1839 of Ayton.

Bapt at Stokesley
Thomas Wright s of Francis 21 June 1752 of Newby
Seems to be his only child in the parish

The other Wrights at Newby in Stokesley  were Joseph and Mary a farmer with children Ann 1747,and Joseph 1748.
They seem to be the only Wrights in the parish at the time.

There is a Thos Wright, Wheelwright at Great Ayton in the 1823 Baines History, Directory & Gazetteer of York, Vol 2

Thank you all for the information!  It's really allowing me to pad out the line a little.  It's always a challenge once you get that far back, but it's good to know there are people with access to snippets of info! :)

I live in Great Ayton and am happy to have a wander around the old churchyard for Wright gravestones if you wish
The baptisms are all on FindMyPast, original registers, Thomas is listed as a labourer an all of them except George where he is a day labourer. Dates are
John 2 April, Mary 29 Nov, William 22 Nov, Robert 17? Aug, George 4 Apr

Thank you for your kind offer!  It would be lovely to see some gravestones - a lot of my ancestors never had them, as we weren't a wealthy bunch!
