Robert Woolhouse B South Shield's 1871.
« on: Sunday 28 October 18 22:32 GMT (UK) »
Hi Folk's,harking back to part of an earlier post this chap was born about 1871 in South Shield's
I can see him in the 1881 and 91 cencus now the strange part, he marries Sarah Ellen Wayman
in Newcastle in 1908 I can't rule her out as my GT Grandmother who was born 1866 to Elijah and
Sophia Wayman in Newcastle but was married to William John Kirton who was still alive at the time
and lived till 1913,in the 1911 cencus Robert and "Nellie" were in Heworth and Minnie Kirton who was
my Grandmother's sister was a visitor which is how I linked the whole story,I can't find a death for
Robert or Nellie even searching for her as Ellen, Sarah or Nellie that match their ages.there was a
Sarah Ellen Kirton marrying Thomas W Leighton in Gateshead 1919 it's very confusing and driving
mad I suppose the logical thing would be to get a marriage cert for the 1908 marraige!

Have you looked up the birth for a child or children she had to confirm she was the mother and your GT Grandmother?

Am a bit confused by the ruling her out bit - she either was the mother of your Grandmother or she wasn't!

Sophie ellen Kirton was my Grandmother the family were all together in 1901 in Flag terrace,by 1911 she was
married to Robert Smith and was living with Sarah ellen's mother herself re-married,sister Kate was in a
Catholic girls school in Tudhoe and John with a family in Newcastle,William John my Gt Grandfather was in
Bensham workhouse and Minnie visiting Nellie and Robert Woolhouse in Heworth,it was while trying to find out who they were I dicovered their marriage in 1908 Nellie being recorded as Sarah Ellen Wayman, same
maiden name, same age and same birthplace as my Gt Grandmother who had married William john Kirton

Thanks for clarifying, think I'm getting my head round it slowly.

Have you found William in 1911 to be positive he was alive until 1913?

Long shot but I wonder if the name came to be under Woodhouse because there are 2 deaths that pretty much match age wise

Sarah E Woodhouse age 70 died 1936 Morpeth dist

Robert Woodhouse age 67 died 1937 Gateshead dist

I've checked death's for William from 1901 onward's and none were similar aged to my Gt Grandfather
other than one in Gateshead in 1913 which was his birthplace and residence, the 1911 cencus has a
correct named and aged person in Bensham workhouse(it was also a hospital and asylum) which is only
a mile or so from where the family lived he died in 1913 buried in the Workhouse plot inSaltwell Cemetery.
I doubt being Catholic they would have divorced and if so why would she marry in her maiden name?
All very strange and after the 1911 cencus I've lost track of all the family bar my Grandmother and Brother
John who served in the RAMC and who's record's survived.

Great shout Millipede, that makes a lot of sense wouldn't be the first time family names were spelled
wrong.

I looked through what cencus access I have and BMD and can't find anything relating to Robert and Sarah
E Woodhouse this is looking a strong possibility for my missing Sarah.
