Rev Robert F Spencer, Vicar of St Matthews, Marylebone, 1876
« on: Friday 02 November 18 13:52 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Bought a lovely book in Dublin recently and inside the cover it has a handwritten name:-

Rev Robert F Spencer, BA, LLD,
Vicar St Matthew's, Marylebone
Tuesday, February 29th 1876

I'd love to know who Rev. Spencer was and whether he had an Irish connection.  Can anyone offer any information, please

Cheers

The next edition of Crockford's available at Ancestry is 1898, by which time he appears to have died.

According to the entry he was formerly Curate of Glendalough, County Wicklow. Priested in 1838 by the Archbishop of Dublin.

Gosh, that was a super fast response, thanks to you both.

So it seems that Rev did in fact have an Irish connection.

Kindest regards

Hi

Thank you Suzard.  I'd searched the online Freecen but didn't locate the family and can't find them on other census returns.

Am I doing something wrong, I wonder.

Regards

According to the probate index he died at 22 Clarendon Gardens on 1 Jan 1891. Administration was granted to his son Robert Franklin Ashley Spencer, who was a clergyman in Buckinghamshire.
