Attached to cheshire regiment?
« on: Friday 02 November 18 14:29 GMT (UK) »
My gt uncle was in the REME, but this letter shows RASC, what I want to know would he be classed as cheshire regiment or attached to the cheshires whilst with the REME or RASC? I'm awaiting service records but can't work out wether somone can be in the cheshire regiment and still be REME or RASC? He died in 1947 as a result of water contamination in the desert theatre. I have attached an image of a letter which shows some details of his situation. Anyone know anything about No.1 Adv MTD ?

There is nothing on the document that says Cheshire Regiment??

No 1 Advanced Mechanical Transport Depot was run by the REME but without doubt with a complement of RASC soldiers to drive things.  There is a war diary for later in 1942 at the National Archives.

There was also a No 1 Advanced Motor Transport depot RASC which no doubt had REME soldiers to fix things so if your man was REME then he was in this unit.  There is a war diary for this one also.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,
