Watson Family,link's to Kildale,Gilling West,Middlesbrough.
« on: Wednesday 07 November 18 23:35 GMT (UK) »
Hi Folk's I wonder if anyone can add any info on my ancestor's.Thomas Watson was my Gtx3
Grandfather he may have been from the Kildale area born late 1700/early 1800's.When my Gtx2
Grandfather Robert was born in 1825 he was schoolmaster at Gilling West, later I think he was
schoolmaster at the Turner Hospital in Kirkleatham, after that I loose track. His other son George
owned Watson's Warf in Middlesbrough he lived in Marton (Cleveland Villas?) and was a JP I'm
not sure if he was the same George Watson who had a year as Mayor of Middlesbrough.
I'm interested in him as Robert's daughter Catherine and William Abbey Smith were my Gt Grandparent's and their first child Ethel Maud Smith born c1880 lived with George from shortly
after her birth despite the family being from Gateshead, she later married in Middlesbrough.
regard's Steve Smith.

I note that the first Robert died in 1827 another Robert born 1830/31

Baptisms Saint Agatha, Gilling (near Richmond), York, England
Parents Thomas Watson & Sarah. Thomas noted as Schoolmaster, on freereg

Annie 4 May 1817 burial 24 Oct 1819
George 6 Oct 1820
Ann 28 Mar 1823
William 16 Nov 1824 burial 21 Nov 1824
Robert 24 Sep 1826 burial 24 Jan 1827
John 11 Dec 1827
Robert 14 Jan 1831

I cannot find a marriage for Thomas, born about 1795 Kirkdale but one tree suggests he married Sarah Wetherall 9 April 1814 • Yarm, Yorkshire.

The tree records that Thomas died in 1875 (1851-1871 censuses  Kirk Leavington, Yorkshire)

However I cannot find evidence to support this you will need to check this out.

Hi Folk's,a little more research has confirmed George Watson of Kildale in Brentor boys post to
be my GTx4 Grandfather I now have the name of his wife as Esther but no maiden name yet just
wondered if anyone can see a hint of a marriage around the 1790's or any more info on the family.
I noticed Esther still alive in the 1851 Census in Stockton with son George a Butcher by trade.

Thank's Colin I can't find anything likely at all so that's a strong lead and not a great many
miles from Kildale to Ormesby either.
