Hugh McKnight, dod, June 8, 1908, Annaghmore
« on: Thursday 08 November 18 19:16 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
I ordered the administration of will for Hugh McKnight, laborer,  who died June 8,  1908,  Annaghmore, as per the administration. Administration was by Jennie McKnight. However, I can't find Hugh's  death record anywhere. Can anyone else? I would like to know more about Hugh, such as his age and parents. In the administration, it states that his grandfather Hugh had died Nov 27, 1907 and had willed his grandson Hugh $100 (the one who died in 1908). Grandfather was born about 1819 and had wife Mary (as per gravestone) who died 1877 although I don't know Mary's surname and I don't find her death either. Anyway, I would like to know grandson Hugh's parents. Grandfather Hugh had sons Hugh, William, George, Samuel and Thomas (but Thomas didn't marry) so  there are  a few choices there.
Thanks for any help.

Peggy - on the Irish civil Reg Index he is recorded as Hugh M'Knight. Q/E Mar 1908 Magherafelt.

Edit -- I am assuming this is him as he has a birth year of c 1820.

The Hugh registered in the first quarter of 1908 is the grandfather Hugh who died in Nov 1907 and was born abt 1819. I am thinking the grandson would be born 1870ish.

This all looks very feasible and it all fits although I am a bit leary of the fact that Hugh married Hannah in Leitrim. I did check the 1901 census as suggested and the only Hugh that I find in Leitrum is only 12, not 20. I don't find  a Hugh at all age 20.
I followed up on Hugh age 12 and there was a Hugh born 1888 in Leitrim to Samuel McKnight and Nancy Pickering. By 1901, Samuel is deceased. Grandfather Hugh does not mention his son Samuel in his will but that could be because Samuel is deceased if this is Grandfather Hugh's son. So I followed up on the marriage of Samuel McKnight and Nancy Pickering and found it in 1877 but Samuel's father is William not Hugh.
To carry the story further, according to grandfather's will, Grandfather Hugh wills the widow of his deceased son  Hugh  25 livres but her name is Isabella.  Since the will was written in July 1905,  son Hugh would be deceased before 1905. That further means if this is the same son Hugh, Hannah must have died and Hugh remarried before 1905. I don't find Hannah's death or Hugh's remarriage or any marriage to an Isabella.
I am grateful for all help and hopefully we will solve this.
