William McMillan Chalmers killed at the battle of Loos
He was born on 2 October 1888 in Drummore Scotland, the youngest son of the late Captain David Chalmers And Sarah McCracken. He was a marine Engineer and joined up at the start of the war. Two of his brothers Alexander and Thomas joined the navy. In a letter from Alexander (my 2x Greatgrandfather, he was on a minesweeper in the Irish Sea)in a letter to his daughter in 1918, he says "I've done away with a good few Germans, so avenged my brothers death". William was married to Harriett and lived in West Didsbury Manchester
He is commemorated on the Loos Memorial, Pas de Calais, France
