Glamorgan Yeomanry
« on: Wednesday 14 November 18 20:15 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone know who I can contact to find out information regarding my Great Great Grandfather in the Glamorgan Yeomanry?

My GG Grandfather was Corporal W C Hinckley, and I recently found a newspaper article from 1902 regarding his selection as one of the regiments representatives for King Edward VII coronation.

I would really like to find out more if possible.

Many thanks.

The Yeomanry regiments were, at that time, militia - part timers - under the control of the county authorities rather than the War Office.  A little history here:
http://www.glamorganfamilyhistory.co.uk/YEOMANRY.html mentions the coronation down at the bottom.

His name doesn't come up in a search for records including the Boer War era when some men went with the 4th Glamorganshire Company as part of the Imperial Yeomanry.

My suggestion would be to contact the Glamorgan Archives https://glamarchives.gov.uk/ to see what they have.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

Thank you MaxD for the information. It does make sense that Corporal Hinckley was part time as he was a publican, property owner and property developer, so most probably didn't see active service. I will follow up your suggestion to contact the Glamorgan archives to see if they have any further details.
