St Thomas Dudley parish records look up please 1700s
« on: Monday 19 November 18 04:05 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I have been seeking records for this parish for the period early 1700s to 1760. Unfortunately all that is available online is outside of this time frame or for non-conformist records only. I can't get to The Hive, which has them on microfilm. Is anyone able to access these?

I am looking for the surname Green, more particularly Mary Green born circa 1732-1748. She married at St Thomas Dudley on 25 August 1767 and was of this parish.

Any help gratefully received.

I note on family search the following:
Mary Green baptised 8 November 1747 Dudley, parents James & Sarah.

Like may sites it is recorded incorrectly as Staffordshire.

Colin
Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

I have found some county references very puzzling on what should be straight forward transcriptions so it's not surprising they can't come to terms with the complexities of Dudley (parts in Worcestershire others in Staffs, then later town going over to Staffs but parish church St Thomas staying in Worcester and to top it all becoming West Midlands)  :o ;D ;D ;D

also checking before going to the archives whether you need Dudley or west brom archives. Also trying find where some relatives are buried who lived in the Smethwick and handsworth areas.

Thank you all so much!

I can't get to the UK at all so this is most helpful.

Mary married Benjamin Lakin (he was from Tamworth Staffordshire).

I see why this is problematic, I hadn't realised the county boundaries near Dudley. According to what I have found online the records should be at The Hive but not showing up in digitised collections for that parish.

I am really hoping to find Mary's family. Having a common name makes this a lot harder than it has been to find Benjamin's family. Benjamin was born in 1735, and their four children were born between 1769-1781 (baptised at Cole Hill Presbyterian which falls into Warwickshire records, though they are often recorded as being of Tamworth - another place which appears to straddle two counties).

HI Mystorian

As I shall be going to Worcestershire for Christmas I have taken pity on you & will have a go at doing your look up at the HIVE so the result will be taken from one of the films of the Parish registers for Dudley St Thomas.

This is what I will look for in that parish - the Bap of Mary Green who may be the daughter of James & Sarah 1730 - 1750
The marriage of Benjamin Lakin & Mary Green 25AUG1767
& if there is time I may see what else I can find.

All the very best

Worcestershire - Heeks, Maiden, Pinchin, Hartland, Tredwell, Holliday, Morton, Collins, Aldington, Saunders
Oxfordshire - Gomm, Hamblet, Austin, Winter,
Herefordshire - Lowe

Thank you Phil I will happily accept any pity you have for me! I do hope Mary or her family can be easily found in the St Thomas records. Her husband Benjamin comes from a respectable family, with links to the Lakins of Hall End. I'm not sure how well he fared though as there is no will. His brother Thomas seemed to have done well for himself and being without heirs he provided for much of his extended family.

Thanks once again, your kindness is greatly appreciated.
