Yes that is the letter, but it is definitely attached to the records for Robert Boyd the son. I wonder if Robert died shortly after arriving in Canada?

Although Robert landed in Quebec, the passenger manifest indicates his ultimate destination was Denver Colorado (USA). His occupation was given as coal miner and there was coal mining in Colorado.

There is a 1920 burial in Trinidad Colorado (link below) for a Robert Boyd. No date, unfortunately. If you can contact the cemetery they might have more info. Trinidad was apparently a coal mining area.

Added: I expect it would have been his wife who was entitled to apply for his medals.

There is also the possibility that Elizabeth didn't return to Canada from her visit to New Jersey. The 1930 US census has an Elizabeth Boyd widow, age 33, born Scotland, age at first marriage 21, arrived 1923, working as a maid. She is living in Montclair, Essex County, New Jersey, USA.

Her earlier destination of Newark, New Jersey was also in Essex County, New Jersey.

Anyway, food for thought.
