Electoral rolls Tyne and Wier and Carlisle look ups
« on: Wednesday 21 November 18 04:52 GMT (UK) »
Has anyone access to the above electoral rolls, Tyne and Wier 1912-1914 and Carlisle 1914-1917. I am trying to trace Margaret Ann Scougal(l) or possibly Margaret Ann Cutter.
Any help will be very much appreciated, as would any advice on the best place to research this

Not many women would appear on electoral register at that time as they did not have the right to vote.  There were also gaps in the compilation of registers due to WW1.

It might help if you know which part of Tyne and Wear she may have been from.  For instance, if she was from Newcastle this would have been classed as Northumberland then but if from South Shields this would have been Durham.

I appreciate you may not know what part of now Tyne and Wear she may have lived but if you do it might help others help you. :)

Thankyou for your replies. In 1912 she was living in Dudley, later she moved to ShinyRow.

Annfield Plain, County Durham. Voter Registration.

1902: Thomas Francis Turner rents Bedroom and Sitting Room at 2 Queen's Parade from Mrs (Jane Watson) Bowes, Widow of Thomas Bowes. Turner is entitled to vote.

Widow Bowes is not allowed to vote despite owning the house.

Michael Bowes son of Widow Bowes is not allowed to vote. He has no financial transaction with the house. Lives rent free - no vote.

http://www.northtyneside.gov.uk/marriage-register-test.shtml?mode=details&register=W99&entrynumber=92

It looks like they married either at a registry office or a non conformist Church.

From this website it appears that maiden name was Young.

I wonder if they may have been Roman Catholic?  I believe St John the Baptist RC Church (Annitsford) is near Dudley.I
