Dr.Llewelyn Lewis of Neath
« on: Tuesday 27 November 18 21:04 GMT (UK) »
Llewelyn Lewis was a GP and Surgeon. He was born in Maesteg in the first quarter of 1856. In 1861 census he was living in 5 Brecon Terrace, Neath with his parents and siblings. His father William was a colliery agent and moved around with his work.
In Sept 1894 he married Lucy Maud Kempthorne of Waunceirch at St Catwgs ,Cadoxton.
In Oct 1985 they had a daughter Rowena Doris Lewis who in 1919 married William Wavell Wakefield (wiki him it will make you feel lazy)…. William was the greatest England Rugby Captain of all time...three times grand slam winner, his record between 1919 and 1926 is unmatched even today . His cap record stood until 1971 ! He was captain of Harlequins and England also  played for Leicester Tigers and many other teams on the quiet including Neath ! He was President of the RFU IN 1950.William went on to get his knighthood and in 1963 until 1983 ,he was Baron Wakefield of Kendal and a Tory MP for 27 years so...little Rowena from Neath was Baroness of Kendal until her death in 1981.....So what do I want to know ?   where was Rowena and her father Llewelyn in the 1911 census  ? and where and when did Llewelyn die and where was he buried ?
Have a go Rootschatters and help me out....

Her brother is a boarder at a school but I can't answer your specific questions.

I assumed Lucy had died if you were just looking for Ro and her father - was Lucy somewhere else in 1911?

Lucy is on 1939 index in Porthcawl with her daughter Katherine born 1919 as a widow. Assume he must have died between 1919 and 1939.

Jen do you think that is the right Lucy ? Llewelyn Lewis would have been  a father at 63 if Kathleen was his daughter ? also Lucy would have been 45 !

Wonders never cease  ! How about that
a father at 62 or 63.
So I shall have to look for a death for Llewelyn sometime  between  1918 and 1939.Thanks Jen.

Thank you Roger.
So he was about 83 and had a 19 year old daughter.  I will go and have a look at the film of the WM for 21.2.39 tomorrow.
