Earliest birth registered to James and Catherine/Kate in Cork may be Catherine Coffey, born 15 Feb 1866
Parents James Coffey, a Hatter, and Catherine, formerly Murphy.

So their marriage may predate 1864, when catholic marriages began to be registered.
There's one at Abbeyfeale, Limerick, 25 Nov 1859, in the catholic parish registers. Don't know how likely that is.

Thank you jonw65 I notice the Baptism for John is at St Finbarrs - the family seemed to be on Northside of Cork for the 2 births I posted but then again people moved around.
Regarding the marriage in Abbeyfeale I cannot say as I do not know where the family originated but Limerick seems a bit distant from Cork.  Does the birth you posted for Catherine 15th Feb 1866 give a home address? Tks for your help

Thank you myluck. Could you comment on the possibility that this couple originated in Abbeyfeale Co Limerick (marriage found by previous poster) then Queenstown then Cork City. Would this be usual in those times.?
