John Haynes & Mary Holloway marriage 1742
« on: Thursday 06 December 18 11:06 GMT (UK) »
John and Mary were married by licence at Caversham.  I have copies of the licence and the parish record, from these I can see John is from Tylehurst (Tilehurst) in Berks but I can't make out Mary's parish in Oxon.

I suspect it's supposed to be Goring but would value others opinion or may be it's another parish I've never heard of.

The marriage record isn't the best quality, it's as supplied by the Record Office.

Thanks

Hi artifis,
I believe it to be Goring. My reason for saying so, apart from the writing looking like that parish, is because
there is a Mary Holloway bapt. 5-2-1723 in Goring, the d/o Andrew & Margaret.
I can send a copy if you wish.

Hi Alan,

I've looked that up and see who you mean thanks.

On An****ry there is an image from the parish records with Holloway and one from presumably the BTs with Halloway.

The baptism year was actually 1724 but in either case in 1742 she was not twenty as she claimed, maybe the reason for the special licence - her parents objecting?
