I don't think so. Can you please give the reference or any other details so we can access the page & get a feel for the handwriting? Is it a baptism entry?

Do you have his occupation on any censuses?

ADDED: perhaps 'Carpenter' with 2 't's?

Looks like 'something cutter' to me, possibly 'cork cutter' - but as Josey says it is hard to make meaningful judgements without some sort of context.

Yes, does look like cutter....and the 'down' stroke before that maybe an 'up' stroke from the line below.

That's what I was thinking when I thought "cork" was a possibility

Perhaps if it's a baptism then baptisms of other children can be found with occupation.

Hi all,
The reference to the record is Drl/2/282
I unfortunately don't have any other census' with his occupation.

I thought corkcutter before I scrolled down.  Off Topic, but Alice is a bird watcher, and I recently discovered that a certain type of bird is in danger because of plastic corks. Not that it's digesting them, it's just that nobody removes the cork bark from the appropriate tree these days so this particular bird can no longer get at the insects on the inside of the cork bark.
