HITCHIN family turmoil
« on: Sunday 09 December 18 14:56 GMT (UK) »
I am at a loss to find information relating to a family dispute which led to my 3xggf, Henry Hitchin, no longer recognising some of his siblings and changing his name (slightly) to HITCHING. This name change happened between the 1851 census and the 1861 census.

I believe the rift must have arisen following the death of his parents Samuel (in January 1857) and Sarah (in June 1857) in Nottingham.  Samuel was a lace designer then an agent for washing powders.   I have not been able to find a will for either parent.

Family information is that my 3xggf went to court in Nottingham and then went (presumably on appeal) to a higher court in London.  Could that higher court be the Prerogative Court of Canterbury?

I have been unable to find the name HITCHIN (or variants) in any records of the Prerogative Court or High Court (my incompetence?).  I don't know how (if at all) the changes in wills legislation introduced in 1858 would affect where or how matters would proceed.

Can anyone suggest what I can do next, or where else I can look?  Thank you.
