« on: Thursday 03 January 19 16:21 GMT (UK) »
Joseph Mellor and Benedicta White, both of the parish of Wingerworth were married there by banns on  27th November 1787.  Benedicta died 21/12/1815.  Joseph's second wife was Frances died 3/8/1845 aged 76.  Joseph died 5/6/1849.  All three are recorded on the same gravestone in Ashover churchyard.

I am looking for the marriage of Joseph Mellor and Frances between 1816 and 1845 please.

According to Free Reg this Joseph was a bachelor, whereas mine would have been a widower.  (I think this is probably Joseph jnr the son of Joseph and Benedicta).

Having looked at this again I think you are right Claire and Suz, that the marriage of Joseph Mellor and Frances Smith at Darley 26/2/1821 is the right one.  I will get in touch with Free Reg to ask them to check their details.

I believe that their son Joseph married Martha Calow at Old Brampton 26/4/1825.

The Joseph Meller who married Frances Mowbray 17/8/1839 appears to have been born circa 1818 and in 1851 is age 33, an Ag Lab living in Ashover with his wife Fanny age 35.

Many thanks for taking the time and trouble to help sort this out.

I have the burial details at All Saints Ashover for Joseph Mellor and his two wives.  The gravestone details are:-

"Sacred to the Memory of Joseph Mellor who died June 5th 1849 aged 85 years  Also Benedicta Mellor wife of the above died Dec 21st 1815 aged 53 years  Also Frances Mellor wife of the above died Aug 3rd 1845 aged 76 years"

Sheep Lee House is a substantial stone built house at the SE corner of the crossroads formed by High Ashes Lane, Long Lane and Birkin Lane.

Thanks again for your help

Free Reg agree and have removed bachelor and spinster from their records.
