Lichfield will query
« on: Friday 04 January 19 08:50 GMT (UK) »
Findmypast tells me that there is (was?) a 1610 Diocese of Lichfield will of a Michael Lea. However, the original image appears to be simply an index entry in a register volume, and I see no will as such. Does anyone know whether this would indicate that the original will itself is now missing?  :)

What you are looking at there is the index to all types of probate records. On the extreme right you will see the abbreviation Ad. This shows that there was no valid will for Michael Lea, only a grant of administration. Details of the grant will be recorded (in Latin) in the Act Book -- search under Michaelis Lea in 1610.

Details of the grant will be recorded (in Latin) in the Act Book ...

... which basically says that on 13 April 1610 at Lichfield, administration of the goods of the deceased Michael Lea of Clifton Campville was granted to Letitia Ellyott, wife of Thomas Elliott, sister of the deceased, who was sworn. Inventory to be submitted by Ascension Day.

Many thanks Bookbox. Latin was not my strong point at school (my version seemed to have eight cases).
The will, had there been one, would have been a bit of a long shot in any case.
