Nicholas Jasper Mansabuis

Hi all, got a problem with this guy, can anybody help? First I'm not too sure about the spelling on the surname, It might be Mansabuis, Munsabinis, Mausibinis, Monsabinis or a combination of all. The signature is hard to decipher. Looks like a greek name. I have an address in January 1850 of 1 India Street, Edinburgh, but I can't trace him at all, looked at Edinburgh Directory, census, etc, but nope. But I know he was in Edinburgh during all of 1850. That's it, any help really would be much appreciated, thanks. The signature with the Mr Nicholas is not his writing but as recorded down by another, the one with N.J. M............... is his actual signature.

Don't know if it is helpful at all but there is an 1851 census record at 31 India Street for a Rendes I Mousabines (age 24) and his wife recorded as Catherine Mansabines.

Very helpful indeed. This lead has now put me onto his name which was Neocles Jaspis Mousabinies and through him to Thomas de Quincy who was in Edinburgh at the same time, who mentions him to Wordsworth. I have turned up a signature which has the Neocles and the Jaspis spelt the same way. A start at last, thank you for the pointer.

Glad it helped.  It sounds like an interesting, if somewhat challenging, line to follow.
