A marriage for Harriett Bell on 20 April 1836 to Andrew Esson, Sunderland, Durham.
Would the marriage give her father's name; or any other details?

Many thanks

Marriages prior to 1.7.1837 do not show fathers name

Marriage certificates from September 1837 give father's name (if known), occupation, age of the bride and groom (sometimes as vague as "full age" ie 21 or over).

The marriage may be available on familysearch:
https://www.familysearch.org/search/image/index?owc=9K5M-GPD%3A13618101%2C32548301%3Fcc%3D1309819
Though you will have to 'browse' through the pages to try to locate the image

The marriage is on Durham Records Online:
https://www.durhamrecordsonline.com/SearchResults.php
It might be worth signing up and investing the £1.50 to see the transcript (I think it is only the transcript rather than the image of the entry?)

*Added: having a very quick look on the familysearch link and they all appear to be burials .... though I have not looked thoroughly.  :-\

What records may contain:

Thanks - might get the transcript from Durham Records on Line, hoping that it may show the father's name.  Would be good to know for the future.

Ordered transcript from Durham Records on Line and details are: Record number 371915.1; Location: Sutherland; Church: Holy Trinity; Denomination: Anglican; 20th April 1836 Andrew Esson (bachelor of this parish) married Harriet Bell (spinster of this parish).  So no other details.

That's disappointing Westee.  :(

I presume you are trying to find out Harriet's parent's names? Have you found Harriet in the 1841 and later censuses? If you can get an idea of her year of birth you may be able to find her birth or baptism. I realise that Bell in a common surname in the area and there will be many Harriet Bells, but you may be able to use a process of elimination to find the most likely one/s?

You might be lucky and find that she was born in the Barrington years (up to 1812).

No, I can't find her in 1841 census either as a Bell or Esson.  Giving up for the meantime but will pursue this later.  Will move on sadly.
