1841 and 1851 census look-up for Bonnon family.
« on: Saturday 13 August 05 19:11 BST (UK) »
Hello,

Would somebody be kind enough to look-up 1841 and or 1851 census for William and Mary Bonnon and their family.   On the 1861 census they were living at Low Towns, Oldbury.   At that time Bonnon was a very unusual name.   I will be very grateful for information about any of them, as I think they were all the same family.   On the 1861 census there was only 12 of them in the country most living in Oldbury.

Thank you.

Marie.

Hello,
I think I have found them under the name Bannon.
HO107/2024 f450 p47 and f451 p48 living in West side of Low Town, Oldbury in the household of John Riley, lodging house keeper
All are listed as lodgers.born Ireland
William 45 coalminer?
Mary 45
Margaret 20
John 18 ??labourer
Elizabeth 15

I'm not very good at deciphering so someone with more experience may be able to fill in the gaps1

Hello Handm,

Thank you so much for this information.   Was this the 1841 or 1851 census?   I'm sure it is the right family.

Regards.

Marie.

Hello again,
It was the 1851 census.
Looking at 1861 for the family, I am wondering if they were still in Ireland in 1841. Perhaps you know when they came to this country. It would certainly help to know if they were here as the 1841 is not name indexed.

Hello Handm,

Thank you for going to the trouble of replying.   It's quite possible that they were still in Ireland in 1841.

If the 1851 census is indexed, would you mind looking for a Joseph Bonnon.   The reason being - on the 1861 census, there are two of them born in Ireland - one living in Oldbury and one living in Church, Lancashire.   Both are about the same age.

If it's too much trouble, it's OK.

Thanks again.

Marie.

Hello Marie,

I will have another look thro the '51 hopefully later today. There are no Bonnons listed but I will try Bannon around a wider area, unless someone else beats me to it. Meanwhile, I noticed that in '61 Joseph is living with Thomas and Mary Lewis. I see there is a possible marriage listed for West Brom for a Mary Bannon and Thomas Lewis in the June qtr of 1860 so could there be a connection?

Hello again,
I have had another look thro the whole West Brom area  but cannot see any sign of a Joseph for variations on the name Bonnon.
Looking at the Bannon entry again, I am not 100% sure that the daughter was Margaret but could be Mary++. As I said before, I'm not expert at deciphering.
Sorry I can't be more help.
